Community Recommendations:

Vaccination

The HPV vaccine is advised for females aged 11-26, starting at 9, targeting types linked to cervical cancer and warts. Adults 27-45 may also discuss vaccination benefits with their doctors.

There are six licensed HPV vaccines categorized into three types: Bivalent, Quadrivalent, and Nonavalent.

  • All vaccines effectively target HPV 16 and 18, linked to 70% of cervical cancers.

  • The quadrivalent vaccine also prevents warts from HPV 6 and 11

  • The nonavalent vaccine covers additional types 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58 for wider protection.

Cost varies by location; it may be free through state or insurance coverage, or up to $285.

If you live in the US and have no insurance, many community clinics offer the vaccine at a discounted rate.  Also, within a certain age range, the state likely covers all costs.  Lastly, check out this MERCK program that potentially could cover the cost of the vaccine.

We dont have any resources at the time for those who live outside of the US.  Stay connected here at Taboos!  We will update the community as we find resources!

Supplements

AHCC 3 grams once a day

AHCC 3 grams once a day

  • What is AHCC: AHCC supplements, made from mushrooms like shiitake, reishi, and maitake, are getting more popular because they might help improve health. AHCC stands for Active Hexose Correlated Compound, and it's thought to strengthen the immune system and promote good health.

  • Results from this phase II study demonstrated that AHCC 3 g once daily was effective to support the host immune system to eliminate persistent HPV infections and was well tolerated with no significant adverse side effects reported. The duration of AHCC supplementation required beyond the first negative result needs more evaluation to optimize success for durable outcomes.

Community Recommendations:

Zinc 220 mg twice a day

  • The study, titled "Efficacy of Oral Zinc Sulfate Supplementation on Clearance of Cervical Human Papillomavirus (HPV); A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial," involved 80 zinc-sufficient women aged 21-55 with HPV and abnormal cervical cytology. Participants were divided into a test group (40 women) who received oral zinc sulfate tablets (220 mg every 12 hours) for three months, and a control group (40 women) who received no placebo. The study found that zinc treatment significantly reduced the risk of persistent HPV infection and progression from baseline cytology. In the zinc-treated group, HPV clearance rate was 57.5% compared to 15% in the control group

Community Recommendations:

Vitamins A, B2, E, Folate

  • The study "Antioxidants Associated With Oncogenic Human Papillomavirus Infection in Women" analyzed the association between 15 antioxidants and vaginal HPV infection in 11,070 women from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2003–2016). Significant findings include an inverse association of serum albumin and four dietary antioxidants (vitamins A, B2, E, and folate) with high-risk HPV infection. Higher levels of these antioxidants correlated with reduced HPV risk. The Nutritional Antioxidant Score (NAS), based on these four dietary antioxidants, showed that lower NAS values were associated with higher HPV prevalence.
